So I’ve Been Quiet…

brandonimageSo I’ve been quiet
Quiet enough to listen to my flaws,
To listen to my doubt,
To listen to my hunger,
What’s fear?
Listen to it rumble throughout the silence,
Ever get that heart stopping,
Gut punch feeling like,
If this is it damn I ain’t do shit,
Do you love time enough not to waste it?
How far do you let a dream go before you chase it ?
Why stay tied to today’s social standards?
Who are you behind a twitter handle,
A instagram video,
Life can be over in a snap,
How often do you chat about that?
When do you break a cycle?
Stop living that live in your head,
& take some steps to get there,
All my goals are gold,
If I value it enough…
I’ve been so quiet,
Now when I speak you heard all I’ve learned,
You hear the levels of hunger in my voice,
My tone silences every whisper of doubt,
Fuck fear,
I been quiet too long.

ThisIsLife (Excerpt)

Sometimes you need a voice in your ear,
The way I stand as a man ain’t alone,
How much of a man are you ?
If you make it to the yacht,
But everyone else around you drowning,
Maybe I was raised different,
I can’t call myself a man and allow my brothers to remain niggas,
I can’t build a happy home with pity & a sad past,
Why would I offer you to walk in my shoes?
When we can step together,
No matter the situation & what you come from,
One day I’ll fall too,
Wise enough to prepare for it,
The day I’ll need you there for it,
So if I reach a believable highest height,
I’ll offer my shoulders to help you reach an even ¬†higher height,
This is life how I see it,
Written by a black mans genius,
Hate us but wanna be us,
Black is free
Black is us
Black is you,
Black is me,
Black is God,
Can you see?
Sneaking under the overseers,
To achieve,
The life I deserve,
The rights that I’ve earned,
You can keep the stars but them stripes got to burn.

I Bit The Apple Too…(Excerpt)

image

I bit the apple too Eve
Though this time,
The serpent,
Sat in my palms,
Follows me everywhere
That is anywhere,
On this green earth,
Makes me forever take for granted,
My gifts that was handed since birth,
Now this plants roots tied,
To a device,
I like,
I like to write,
I like to type,
Which leads to tweets,
I forgot to eat,
This video was cool,
Watch the same vine 20 times,
Lost more than a couple minutes,
Didn’t even notice.
Today I’m motivated,
Grab my phone,
Open app after app,
Where’s my focus?….(To be continued)

Something You Forgot.

So is this us and who we are?
Heard you lock the door,
Turn on the car,
Gone…
The silence surround me,
Trying to find answers to your actions,
Not one thing in me,
Couldn’t find a reason for you to leave,
Without me…
Our bond was everyday,
Not a day went by without me,
You touching I,
Who has your back like I do,

July 25th-Emmett Till

Looked a white woman in the eyes,
I should have died today,
Spoke to her kept it as simple as “Hello”,
Though I,
Couldn’t help but think,
I should have died today,
As she turned away I looked once more,
That’s old fashion, Continue reading “July 25th-Emmett Till”

I don’t believe anyone was put on this earth to hurt anyone.
I don’t believe God put people¬†in your life with the intentions to hurt you.
God is love.
This is where I believe free will comes into play.
People choose you hurt you.
People choose not to love.
Your hurt by people choices within free will.
What saves you from that?
God’s will.

We Tend To Forget.

Mama never thought she was naming a hashtag,
Naming a victim,
Naming another cause for the march ,
She never thought she was naming a headline,
Naming a subject of a CNN discussion,
Mama never thought she was naming another name to the list,
Mama took her time to create,
A name to be place upon a Queen,
Not a name all over the news,
Another grave for black youth,
It’s a shame,
Things we must remember,
Pain isn’t just in our black men,
But also within our women,
Mama we know this wasn’t the she deserved,
I share your pain through these words.

The Message.

IMG_0968They want you in fear,
They kill black men to grab your attention,
They take away your fathers and brothers,
They find the root of your support system and kill it,
They want you to fear giving birth,
They destroy the minds of growing black men so they have nothing to offer,
They tie your black men to a system that forever follows them,
So even when your black man wants to change…he can’t,
They kill us to break your heart,
They want to give you the fear to never experience this again,
They hope you choose not to birth and raise another black man,
They know the only way to get rid of us is to get rid of you,
This is the message they’ll attempt to send you,
Black woman.
